Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl is one of the most versatile flooring systems available for high-traffic commercial, healthcare, and educational interiors, offering slip resistance, acoustic comfort, and a wide range of visual finishes without the maintenance burden of natural materials. Wetar’s vinyl range spans homogeneous and heterogeneous sheets, LVT, ESD tiles, sports vinyl, and digitally printed designs, each engineered for a different mix of foot traffic, hygiene, and design requirements. The full range is manufactured with 50% recycled content, is 100% phthalate-free, and is fungistatic and bacteriostatic, meaning the surface actively resists fungal and bacterial growth rather than just being easy to wipe down.

Wear Layer Thickness and Durability

Wear layer thickness is the single biggest factor in how long a vinyl floor holds up under real traffic, and it varies by product type:

  • Homogeneous vinyl: a single, consistent material through the full thickness of the sheet, so the wear surface doesn’t thin out or delaminate over time. Available as regular PUR-reinforced sheets and as static-dissipative (ESD) variants for sensitive environments.
  • Heterogeneous vinyl: a compact 2mm heavy-duty construction for high-traffic zones, plus cushioned and loose-lay variants where underfoot comfort matters as much as raw wear resistance.
  • LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile): ranges from 2.2mm dry-back glued-down tiles for controlled commercial environments, through 4-5mm flex loose-lay for faster installation and easier future replacement, up to 5mm click tiles for a floating, glue-free install.
  • Sports vinyl sheet: 4mm to 10mm, thick enough to absorb impact across a range of indoor sports activities.

Slip Resistance and Safety Ratings

Slip resistance in vinyl flooring is tested and rated under recognized European standards, most commonly the DIN 51130 ramp test (R9 to R13, with R9 being the least slip-resistant and R13 the most) for barefoot or wet areas, and the pendulum test under EN 13893, which produces a DS (dynamic coefficient of friction) classification. For healthcare corridors, commercial kitchens, and pool surrounds, the R-rating and DS class matter more than the finish, since these are exactly the areas where slip incidents happen.

Fire, Hygiene, and Static Control

Commercial vinyl flooring in the UAE is typically expected to meet EN 13501-1 fire classification, commonly Bfl-s1, meaning low flame spread and low smoke emission, and, for healthcare and lab environments, EN 13845 for electrostatic behavior. Our ESD tiles are purpose-built static-dissipative flooring for server rooms, labs, and ESD-sensitive manufacturing areas, distinct from the general electrostatic discharge option available within the homogeneous vinyl range for less critical applications.

Warranty Terms

Digital print vinyl carries a 10-year commercial warranty.

Maintenance

Vinyl’s low maintenance cost is one of its main advantages over natural materials. Daily upkeep is usually limited to sweeping or vacuuming loose debris and damp mopping with a neutral, pH-balanced cleaner, no waxing or resealing required. Homogeneous and heterogeneous ranges can be periodically buffed to refresh the surface sheen without stripping the wear layer, while ESD tiles need cleaning products that won’t degrade their conductive properties, so facilities teams should stick to the product-specific cleaning guidance rather than a generic floor cleaner.

Where Each Type Fits

  • Homogeneous vinyl: hospital corridors, labs, and any space where a seamless, hygienic surface with a long service life matters more than a decorative finish.
  • Heterogeneous vinyl: offices, retail, and education spaces where a mix of comfort underfoot and design flexibility is the priority.
  • LVT: hospitality, residential, and corporate interiors that want the realistic wood or stone visuals of natural materials with vinyl’s water resistance and lower maintenance.
  • ESD tiles: server rooms, cleanrooms, electronics assembly, and any facility where static discharge is a genuine operational risk.
  • Sports vinyl sheet: indoor courts, dance studios, and multipurpose halls needing impact absorption without a sprung subfloor.
  • Digital print vinyl: feature areas, branded interiors, and reception spaces where a fully custom, joint-free design is worth the lead time for client-supplied artwork.

Installation Requirements

Vinyl performs only as well as the subfloor underneath it. Before installation, the substrate needs to be assessed for moisture content, leveled where necessary, and cleared of any contaminants that could telegraph through a thin-gauge material over time. Sheet goods are typically hot-air welded at the seams, fusing the material into one continuous, hygienic surface rather than sitting on top of it with glue or paint, while LVT click products install as a floating floor with expansion gaps left at the perimeter to allow for natural movement. Digital print vinyl is supplied in 2m and 4m wide sheets specifically to minimize joints, since the client-supplied design needs to read as one continuous image rather than a tiled repeat.

Custom Digital Print Vinyl

Customization of designs is possible like never before, and this option does away with welded joints altogether, since a single wide-format sheet covers the design without a break.

  • 2m and 4m wide sheets available
  • 10-year commercial warranty available
  • Design must be supplied by the client’s designer
